A Remnant Prepared

For seven women will take hold of (A)one man on that day, saying, “We will eat our own bread and wear our own clothes, only let us be called by your name; (B)take away our disgrace!”

On that day the (C)Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the (D)fruit of the earth will be the pride and the beauty of the (E)survivors of Israel. When the Lord has washed away the filth of the (I)daughters of Zion and [a]purged the (J)bloodshed of Jerusalem from her midst, by the (K)spirit of judgment and the (L)spirit of [b]burning, then the Lord will create over the entire area of Mount Zion and over her assemblies (M)a cloud by day, and smoke, and the brightness of a flaming fire by night; for over all the (N)glory will be a canopy. And there will be a (O)shelter to give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and [c]protection from the storm and the rain.

  2. Isaiah 4:4 Or the Spirit
  3. Isaiah 4:5 Or over all the glory there

And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.

In that day shall the branch of the Lord be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.

And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem:

When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.

And the Lord will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence.

And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the day time from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.

(A)And seven women (B)shall take hold of (C)one man in that day, saying, “We will eat our own bread and wear our own clothes, only let us be called by your name; (D)take away our reproach.”

The Branch of the Lord Glorified

In that day (E)the branch of the Lord shall be beautiful and glorious, and (F)the fruit of the land shall be the pride and honor of the survivors of Israel. (G)And he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called (H)holy, everyone who has (I)been recorded for life in Jerusalem, when (J)the Lord shall have washed away the filth of (K)the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem from its midst by a spirit of judgment and by (L)a spirit of burning.[a] Then the Lord will create over the whole site of Mount Zion and over her assemblies (M)a cloud by day, and smoke and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory there will be (N)a canopy. When this happens, seven women will grab the same man, and each of them will say, “I'll buy my own food and clothes! Just marry me and take away my disgrace.”[a]

The Lord Will Bless His People Who Survive

The time is coming when the Lord will make his land fruitful and glorious again, and the people of Israel who survive will take great pride in what the land produces. Everyone who is left alive in Jerusalem will be called special, after the Lord sends a fiery judgment to clean the city and its people of their violent deeds.

(A) Then the Lord will cover the whole city and its meeting places with a thick cloud each day and with a flaming fire[b] each night. God's own glory will be like a huge tent that covers everything. It will provide shade from the heat of the sun and a place of shelter and protection from storms and rain.
