Isaiah 23:4-6

⁴Sidon, you are a mighty fortress
built along the sea.
But you will be disgraced
like a married woman
who never had children.^[a]

⁵When Egypt hears about Tyre,
it will tremble.
⁶All of you along the coast
had better cry and sail
far across the ocean.^[b]

New International Version

⁴Be ashamed, Sidon,^(A) and you fortress of the sea,
    for the sea has spoken:
“I have neither been in labor nor given birth;^(B)
    I have neither reared sons nor brought up daughters.”
⁵When word comes to Egypt,
    they will be in anguish^(C) at the report from Tyre.^(D)
