¹⁷ The arrogance of man will be brought low^(A)
    and human pride humbled;^(B)
the Lord alone will be exalted in that day,^(C)
18     and the idols^(D) will totally disappear.^(E)

¹⁹ People will flee to caves^(F) in the rocks
    and to holes in the ground^(G)
from the fearful presence^(H) of the Lord
    and the splendor of his majesty,^(I)
    when he rises to shake the earth.^(J)
20 In that day^(K) people will throw away
    to the moles and bats^(L)
their idols of silver and idols of gold,^(M)
    which they made to worship.^(N)
21 They will flee to caverns in the rocks^(O)
    and to the overhanging crags
from the fearful presence of the Lord
    and the splendor of his majesty,^(P)
    when he rises^(Q) to shake the earth.^(R)

²² Stop trusting in mere humans,^(S)
    who have but a breath^(T) in their nostrils.
    Why hold them in esteem?^(U)
