Restoration of Judah
14 But the Lord will have compassion on Jacob and will again choose Israel, and will set them in their own land; and aliens will join them and attach themselves to the house of Jacob. 2 And the nations will take them and bring them to their place, and the house of Israel will possess the nations[a] as male and female slaves in the Lord’s land; they will take captive those who were their captors, and rule over those who oppressed them.
Downfall of the King of Babylon
3 When the Lord has given you rest from your pain and turmoil and the hard service with which you were made to serve, 4 you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon:
How the oppressor has ceased!
How his insolence[b] has ceased!
5 The Lord has broken the staff of the wicked,
the scepter of rulers,
6 that struck down the peoples in wrath
with unceasing blows,
that ruled the nations in anger
with unrelenting persecution.
7 The whole earth is at rest and quiet;
they break forth into singing.
8 The cypresses exult over you,
the cedars of Lebanon, saying,
“Since you were laid low,
no one comes to cut us down.”
9 Sheol beneath is stirred up
to meet you when you come;
it rouses the shades to greet you,
all who were leaders of the earth;
it raises from their thrones
all who were kings of the nations.
10 All of them will speak
and say to you:
“You too have become as weak as we!
You have become like us!”
11 Your pomp is brought down to Sheol,
and the sound of your harps;
maggots are the bed beneath you,
and worms are your covering.
12 How you are fallen from heaven,
O Day Star, son of Dawn!
How you are cut down to the ground,
you who laid the nations low!
13 You said in your heart,
“I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne
above the stars of God;
I will sit on the mount of assembly
on the heights of Zaphon;[c]
14 I will ascend to the tops of the clouds,
I will make myself like the Most High.”
15 But you are brought down to Sheol,
to the depths of the Pit.
16 Those who see you will stare at you,
and ponder over you:
“Is this the man who made the earth tremble,
who shook kingdoms,
17 who made the world like a desert
and overthrew its cities,
who would not let his prisoners go home?”
18 All the kings of the nations lie in glory,
each in his own tomb;
19 but you are cast out, away from your grave,
like loathsome carrion,[d]
clothed with the dead, those pierced by the sword,
who go down to the stones of the Pit,
like a corpse trampled underfoot.
20 You will not be joined with them in burial,
because you have destroyed your land,
you have killed your people.
May the descendants of evildoers
nevermore be named!
21 Prepare slaughter for his sons
because of the guilt of their father.[e]
Let them never rise to possess the earth
or cover the face of the world with cities.
22 I will rise up against them, says the Lord of hosts, and will cut off from Babylon name and remnant, offspring and posterity, says the Lord. 23 And I will make it a possession of the hedgehog, and pools of water, and I will sweep it with the broom of destruction, says the Lord of hosts.
An Oracle concerning Assyria
24 The Lord of hosts has sworn:
As I have designed,
so shall it be;
and as I have planned,
so shall it come to pass:
25 I will break the Assyrian in my land,
and on my mountains trample him under foot;
his yoke shall be removed from them,
and his burden from their shoulders.
26 This is the plan that is planned
concerning the whole earth;
and this is the hand that is stretched out
over all the nations.
27 For the Lord of hosts has planned,
and who will annul it?
His hand is stretched out,
and who will turn it back?
An Oracle concerning Philistia
28
In the year that King Ahaz died this oracle came:
29 Do not rejoice, all you Philistines,
that the rod that struck you is broken,
for from the root of the snake will come forth an adder,
and its fruit will be a flying fiery serpent.
30 The firstborn of the poor will graze,
and the needy lie down in safety;
but I will make your root die of famine,
and your remnant I[f] will kill.
31 Wail, O gate; cry, O city;
melt in fear, O Philistia, all of you!
For smoke comes out of the north,
and there is no straggler in its ranks.
32 What will one answer the messengers of the nation?
“The Lord has founded Zion,
and the needy among his people
will find refuge in her.”

Gioia d’Israele dopo la sconfitta di Babilonia
14 (A)Il Signore infatti avrà pietà di Giacobbe, sceglierà ancora Israele e li ristabilirà sul loro suolo; lo straniero si unirà a essi e si stringerà alla casa di Giacobbe.
2 I popoli li prenderanno e li ricondurranno al loro luogo, e la casa d’Israele li possederà nel paese del Signore come servi e come serve; essi terranno prigionieri quelli che li avevano fatti prigionieri e domineranno sui loro oppressori.
3 Il giorno che il Signore ti avrà dato riposo dal tuo affanno, dalle tue agitazioni e dalla dura schiavitù alla quale eri stato assoggettato, tu pronuncerai questo canto sul re di Babilonia e dirai:
4 (B)«Come! Il tiranno è finito? È finito il tormento[a]?
5 Il Signore ha spezzato il bastone degli empi, lo scettro dei despoti.
6 Colui che furiosamente percuoteva i popoli con colpi senza tregua, colui che dominava rabbiosamente sulle nazioni, è inseguito senza misericordia.
7 Tutta la terra è in riposo, è tranquilla, la gente manda grida di gioia.
8 Perfino i cipressi e i cedri del Libano si rallegrano a motivo di te. “Da quando tu sei atterrato”, essi dicono, “il boscaiolo non sale più contro di noi”.
9 Il soggiorno dei morti, laggiù, si agita per te, per venire a incontrarti al tuo arrivo; esso sveglia per te le ombre, tutti i prìncipi della terra; fa alzare dai loro troni tutti i re delle nazioni.
10 Tutti prendono la parola e ti dicono: “Anche tu dunque sei diventato debole come noi? Anche tu sei divenuto dunque simile a noi?”
11 Il tuo fasto e il suono dei tuoi saltèri sono stati fatti scendere nel soggiorno dei morti; sotto di te sta un letto di vermi, e i vermi sono la tua coperta.
12 Come mai sei caduto dal cielo, astro mattutino, figlio dell’aurora? Come mai sei atterrato, tu che calpestavi le nazioni?
13 Tu dicevi in cuor tuo: “Io salirò in cielo, innalzerò il mio trono al di sopra delle stelle di Dio; mi siederò sul monte dell’assemblea, nella parte estrema del settentrione;
14 salirò sulle sommità delle nubi, sarò simile all’Altissimo”.
15 Invece ti hanno fatto discendere nel soggiorno dei morti, nelle profondità della fossa!
16 Coloro che ti vedono fissano in te lo sguardo, ti esaminano attentamente e dicono: “È questo l’uomo che faceva tremare la terra, che agitava i regni,
17 che riduceva il mondo in un deserto, ne distruggeva le città e non rimandava mai liberi a casa i suoi prigionieri?”
18 Tutti i re delle nazioni, tutti quanti riposano gloriosi, ciascuno nella propria casa;
19 ma tu sei stato gettato lontano dalla tua tomba come un rampollo abominevole coperto di uccisi trafitti con la spada, calati sotto i sassi della fossa, come un cadavere calpestato.
20 Tu non sarai riunito a loro nella sepoltura, perché hai distrutto il tuo paese, hai ucciso il tuo popolo; della razza dei malfattori non si parlerà mai più.
21 Preparate il massacro dei suoi figli, a causa dell’iniquità dei loro padri! Che non si rialzino più a conquistare la terra, a riempire il mondo di città!
22 Io sorgerò contro di loro», dice il Signore degli eserciti; «sterminerò di Babilonia il nome, i superstiti, la razza e la discendenza», dice il Signore.
23 «Ne farò dominio del porcospino, un luogo di paludi, la spazzerò con la scopa della distruzione», dice il Signore degli eserciti.
Profezia contro l’Assiria
24 (C)Il Signore degli eserciti l’ha giurato, dicendo: «In verità, come io penso, così sarà; come ho deciso, così avverrà.
25 Frantumerò l’Assiro nel mio paese, lo calpesterò sui miei monti; allora il suo giogo sarà tolto da essi e il suo carico sarà tolto dalle loro spalle».
26 Questo è il piano deciso contro tutta la terra; questa è la mano stesa contro tutte le nazioni.
27 Il Signore degli eserciti ha fatto questo piano; chi potrà frustrarlo? La sua mano è stesa; chi gliela farà ritirare?
Profezia contro i Filistei
28 (D)L’anno della morte di Acaz fu pronunciata questa profezia[b]:
29 «Non ti rallegrare, o Filistia tutta quanta, perché la verga che ti colpiva è spezzata. Poiché dalla radice del serpente uscirà una vipera e il suo frutto sarà un drago volante.
30 I più poveri avranno di che pascersi e i bisognosi riposeranno al sicuro; ma io farò morire di fame la tua radice e quel che rimarrà di te sarà ucciso.
31 Urla, o porta! Grida, o città! Trema, o Filistia tutta quanta! Poiché dal nord viene un fumo e nessuno si sbanda dalla sua schiera».
32 Che cosa si risponderà ai messaggeri di questa nazione? «Che il Signore ha fondato Sion e che in essa gli afflitti del suo popolo trovano rifugio».

14 Denn der Herr wird sich über Jakob erbarmen und Israel wieder erwählen und sie zur Ruhe bringen in ihrem Land. Und der Fremdling wird sich ihnen anschließen, und sie werden dem Haus Jakobs anhängen.
2 Und die Völker werden sich ihrer annehmen und sie an ihren Ort bringen; und das Haus Israel wird sie im Land des Herrn als Knechte und Mägde zum Erbbesitz erhalten; so werden sie die gefangen nehmen, deren Gefangene sie gewesen sind, und diejenigen beherrschen, die einst sie bedrängten.
Das Spottlied auf den König von Babel
3 Und es wird geschehen, an dem Tag, an dem der Herr dir Ruhe verschafft von deiner Qual und Unruhe und von dem harten Dienst, der dir auferlegt war,
4 da wirst du dieses Spottlied auf den König von Babel anstimmen und sagen:
»Wie hat der Treiber ein Ende genommen,
wie hat die Erpressung aufgehört!
5 Der Herr hat den Stab der Gesetzlosen zerbrochen,
Den Herrscherstab der Tyrannen,
6 der die Völker im Grimm schlug
mit unaufhörlichen Schlägen,
der im Zorn Nationen niedertrat

10 Sie alle ergreifen das Wort und sprechen zu dir:
Auch du bist kraftlos geworden wie wir,

11 Ins Totenreich hinabgestürzt ist deine Pracht, das Rauschen deiner Harfen;
Maden werden dein Lager sein
und Würmer deine Decke.
12 Wie bist du vom Himmel herabgefallen,
du Glanzstern[b], Sohn der Morgenröte!
Wie bist du zu Boden geschmettert,
du Überwältiger der Nationen!
13 Und doch hattest du dir in deinem Herzen vorgenommen:
›Ich will zum Himmel emporsteigen

15 Doch ins Totenreich bist du hinabgestürzt,
in die tiefste Grube!
16 Die dich sehen, schauen dich verwundert an,

›Ist das der Mann, der die Erde erzittern ließ,
der Königreiche erschütterte;
17 der den Erdkreis zur Wüste machte
und seine Städte niederriss;
der seine Gefangenen nicht nach Hause entließ?

22 Ich will gegen sie aufstehen, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, und von Babel ausrotten Namen und Überrest, Spross und Schössling[c]!, spricht der Herr.
23 Und ich will es zum Besitztum der Igel machen und zu Wassersümpfen und will es wegfegen mit dem Besen des Verderbens!, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.
Weissagung gegen Assyrien
24 Der Herr der Heerscharen hat geschworen und gesagt: Fürwahr, es soll geschehen, wie ich es mir vorgenommen habe, und es soll zustande kommen, wie ich es beschlossen habe:
25 Ich will den Assyrer zerschmettern in meinem Land, und ich will ihn zertreten auf meinen Bergen; so wird sein Joch von ihnen genommen werden und seine Last von ihren Schultern fallen.
26 Das ist der Ratschluss, der beschlossen ist über die ganze Erde, und dies ist die Hand, die ausgestreckt ist über alle Völker!
27 Denn der Herr der Heerscharen hat es beschlossen — wer will es vereiteln? Seine Hand ist ausgestreckt — wer will sie abwenden?
Weissagung gegen das Land der Philister
28 Im Todesjahr des Königs Ahas ist dieser Ausspruch ergangen:
29 Freue dich nicht, ganz Philisterland, dass der Stock zerbrochen ist, der dich schlug! Denn aus der Wurzel der Schlange wird eine Natter hervorkommen, und deren Frucht wird ein fliegender, feuriger Drache sein.
30 Und die Erstgeborenen der Armen werden weiden und die Geringen sicher wohnen; aber deine Wurzel will ich durch Hunger töten, und deinen Überrest wird er[d] umbringen.
31 Jammere, o Tor! Schreie, o Stadt! Verzage, ganz Philisterland! Denn von Norden kommt Rauch und eine lückenlose Schar!
32 Was wird man den Boten des Heidenvolkes[e] antworten? Dass der Herr Zions Grundmauern gelegt hat, und dort werden die Elenden seines Volkes Zuflucht finden.

Izráel népe hazatér a száműzetésből
14 De Jákób családján megkönyörül az Örökkévaló, továbbra is Izráel népét választja, és visszatelepíti őket saját földjükre. Még idegenek[a] is csatlakoznak hozzájuk, Jákób családjához jövevények szegődnek. 2 Felkarolják a nemzetek Izráelt, és hazaviszik őket a saját földjükre. Az Örökkévaló földjén pedig a nemzetek közül valók lesznek rabszolgák Izráelben. Így válnak szolgák azokból, akik Izráelt fogságban tartották. Így uralkodik Izráel azokon, akik addig elnyomták őket!
Gúnydal Babilon királyáról
3 Azon a napon, mikor az Örökkévaló nyugalmat ad neked, Izráel, a száműzetés sok fájdalma, szenvedése és a nehéz szolgálat után, amelyre kényszerítettek, 4 gúnydalt énekelsz majd Babilon királyáról:
„Hogy vége lett a kegyetlen zsarnoknak!
Hihetetlen, hogy megszűnt az elnyomás!
5 Eltörte az Örökkévaló a gonoszok botját,
a zsarnok uralmának véget vetett!
6 Többé már nem veri a népeket szüntelen dühében,
nem tapossa le a nemzeteket haragjában,
vége a kegyetlen üldözésnek!
7 Csendesen nyugszik az egész föld,
végre megpihenhet!
Lakói ujjongva énekelnek.

23 Babilont sündisznók tanyájává teszem,
mocsaras ingovány lesz a helyén,

Prófécia Asszíria bukásáról
24 Megesküdött az Örökkévaló, a Seregek Ura:
„Bizony, úgy lesz, ahogyan terveztem,
amit határoztam, véghez is viszem!
25 Összetöröm Asszíriát földemen,
eltaposom hegyeimen,
hogy igáját letörjem népemről,
hogy terhét levegyem a válláról.”
26 Így határozott az Örökkévaló az egész föld felől,
s karját kinyújtotta a nemzetek fölé.
27 Amit ő határoz, ki húzza keresztül?
Ha karját kinyújtja, hogy cselekedjen,
ki állhat ellene?
Prófécia a filiszteusok ellen
28 Az Örökkévaló ezt a súlyos kijelentést abban az évben adta, amikor Áház király meghalt:[b]
29 „Ne örüljetek olyan nagyon, filiszteusok!
Bár a bot, amely benneteket vert,
összetört,
de a kígyótól vipera származik,
attól pedig újabb tüzes és szárnyas kígyó.
30 A szegények elsőszülöttjei jóllaknak kezemből,
és a nincstelenek biztonságban pihennek.
A filiszteusok gyökereit pedig éhínséggel ölöm meg,
maradékukat is egészen elpusztítom.
31 Jajgassatok kapuk!
Kiáltsatok városok!
Egész Filisztea retteg,
mert észak felől félelmetes füst gomolyog.
Rettenetes hadsereg közeleg,
harcosai mind fegyelmezettek és erősek!”
32 Mit mondjunk akkor a népek követeinek? Azt, hogy az Örökkévaló építette erősre Sion alapját, ezért oda menekülnek, s benne találnak menedéket népe szegényei.

13 Tu disais en ton cœur : |« Je monterai au ciel,
j’élèverai mon trône |bien au-dessus des étoiles divines.
Je siégerai en roi sur la montagne |de l’assemblée des dieux,
aux confins du septentrion[b].
14 Je monterai au sommet des nuages,
je serai semblable au Très-Haut. »
15 Mais te voilà précipité |dans le séjour des morts,
dans les profondeurs de l’abîme !
16 Ceux qui te voient |arrêtent leurs regards sur toi,
ils se demandent :
« Est-ce bien là cet homme |qui ébranlait la terre
et qui terrifiait les royaumes,

qui détruisait les villes
et qui ne relâchait jamais |ses prisonniers ? »
18 Tous les rois des nations, |oui, tous, sans exception,
ont cet honneur de reposer |chacun dans son caveau.
19 Mais toi, loin de ta tombe, |tu as été jeté
comme un avorton[c] qu’on méprise,
au milieu des victimes |transpercées par l’épée,
qu’on a précipitées |dans la fosse de pierres,
dont on piétine le cadavre.
20 Tu ne seras jamais |réuni avec elles |dans le tombeau,
car tu as ruiné ton pays,

La race criminelle |sera oubliée à jamais.
21 Préparez le massacre de ses fils
pour tous les crimes de leurs pères,
pour qu’ils ne puissent pas |se relever un jour |pour conquérir le monde
et couvrir de leurs villes[d] |la face de la terre.
22 Je combattrai contre eux,
déclare l’Eternel, |le Seigneur des armées célestes,
et je rayerai de la terre |le nom de Babylone, |oui je supprimerai |ce qui restera d’elle,
sa lignée et sa descendance.
L’Eternel le déclare.
23 Ses ruines deviendront |un nid de hérissons, |un vaste marécage.
Et je la balaierai |comme avec un balai |qui détruit tout.
L’Eternel le déclare, |le Seigneur des armées célestes.
Contre l’Assyrie
24 Le Seigneur des armées célestes |a juré par serment :
« Ce que j’ai décidé |s’accomplira,
ce que j’ai projeté |se réalisera :
25 oui, je briserai l’Assyrie |dans mon pays,
je la piétinerai |sur mes montagnes.
J’écarterai de vous |le joug qu’elle imposait,
j’ôterai son fardeau |de dessus votre épaule. »
26 Telle est la décision |que l’Eternel a prise |contre la terre entière,
et telle est la menace |qu’il adresse à toute nation.
27 Le Seigneur des armées célestes |a pris sa décision ; |qui pourrait le faire échouer ?
Il a levé sa main ; |qui la détournerait ?
Contre la Philistie
28 Oracle prononcé lors de l’année de la mort du roi Ahaz[e] :
29 Ne te réjouis pas tant, |Philistie tout entière,
de ce que le bâton |qui te frappait le dos |a été mis en pièces,
car de la souche du serpent |naîtra un basilic
dont la progéniture |sera un serpent venimeux volant[f].
30 Les plus pauvres du peuple |trouveront de quoi se nourrir
et tous les miséreux |reposeront en sûreté.
Mais je ferai périr |ton peuple par la faim,
et ceux qui resteront de toi |seront exterminés.
31 Lamente-toi, ô porte,
pousse des cris, ô ville !
Toute la Philistie s’effondre,
car du septentrion |arrive une fumée
et, dans leurs bataillons, |aucun ne se débande.
32 Que répondrons-nous donc |à ceux qu’envoie cette nation ?
Que c’est l’Eternel même |qui a fondé Sion ;
les humbles de son peuple |y trouveront refuge.
