¹⁷ Behold, I am going to ^(A)awaken the Medes against them,
Who will not think about silver or ^(B)take pleasure in gold.
¹⁸ And their bows will dash the ^(C)young men to pieces,
They will not even have compassion on the fruit of the womb,
Nor will their ^(D)eye pity ^[a]children.
¹⁹ And it will be that ^(E)Babylon, the ^(F)beauty of kingdoms, the ^[b]honor of the Chaldeans’ pride,
Will be as when God ^(G)overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

⁴¹ “Behold, a people is coming ^(A)from the north,
And a great nation and many kings
Will be aroused from the remote parts of the earth.
⁴² They ^(B)seize their bow and ^[a]javelin;
They are ^(C)cruel and have no compassion.
Their ^(D)voice roars like the sea;
And they ride on ^(E)horses,
^(F)Arranged like a man for the battle
Against you, O daughter of Babylon.
⁴³ The ^(G)king of Babylon has heard the report about them,
And his hands hang limp;
^(H)Distress has taken hold of him,
Agony like a woman in childbirth.
