Good News Translation

4 You will be killed in battle or dragged off as prisoners. Yet even so the Lord's anger will not be ended; his hand will still be stretched out to punish.

5 (A)The Lord said, “Assyria! I use Assyria like a club to punish those with whom I am angry. 6 I sent Assyria to attack a godless nation, people who have made me angry. I sent them to loot and steal and trample the people like dirt in the streets.”

New International Version

4 Nothing will remain but to cringe among the captives(A)
    or fall among the slain.(B)

Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away,(C)
    his hand is still upraised.

God’s Judgment on Assyria

5 “Woe(D) to the Assyrian,(E) the rod(F) of my anger,
    in whose hand is the club(G) of my wrath!(H)
6 I send him against a godless(I) nation,
    I dispatch(J) him against a people who anger me,(K)
to seize loot and snatch plunder,(L)
    and to trample(M) them down like mud in the streets.
