Isaiah 1:27-31

World English Bible

²⁷Zion shall be redeemed with justice,
    and her converts with righteousness.
²⁸But the destruction of transgressors and sinners shall be together,
    and those who forsake Yahweh shall be consumed.
²⁹For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which you have desired,
    and you shall be confounded for the gardens that you have chosen.
³⁰For you shall be as an oak whose leaf fades,
    and as a garden that has no water.
³¹The strong will be like tinder,
    and his work like a spark.
They will both burn together,
    and no one will quench them.”

New Living Translation

²⁷Zion will be restored by justice;
those who repent will be revived by righteousness.
²⁸But rebels and sinners will be completely destroyed,
and those who desert the Lord will be consumed.

²⁹You will be ashamed of your idol worship
    in groves of sacred oaks.
You will blush because you worshiped
    in gardens dedicated to idols.
³⁰You will be like a great tree with withered leaves,
    like a garden without water.
³¹The strongest among you will disappear like straw;
    their evil deeds will be the spark that sets it on fire.
They and their evil works will burn up together,
    and no one will be able to put out the fire.

and those who forsake^(D) the Lord will perish.^(E)

    in which you have delighted;
you will be disgraced because of the gardens^(H)
    that you have chosen.
³⁰You will be like an oak with fading leaves,^(I)

³¹The mighty man will become tinder
    and his work a spark;
both will burn together,
    with no one to quench the fire.^(J)”
