2 Poporul care umbla în întuneric
a văzut o mare lumină!
Peste cei ce locuiau în ţara umbrei morţii[a]
a strălucit o lumină!
3 Tu ai înmulţit neamul
şi ai făcut să-i crească bucuria.
Ei se bucură înaintea Ta
cum se bucură nişte oameni la seceriş
şi cum se bucură cei care împart o pradă.
4 Fiindcă jugul ce-i apăsa,
drugul de pe umerii lor
şi toiagul asupritorului lor,
le-ai zdrobit Tu ca în ziua înfrângerii lui Midian[b].

2 Poporul(A), care umbla în întuneric, vede o mare lumină; peste cei ce locuiau în ţara umbrei morţii răsare o lumină. 3 Tu înmulţeşti poporul, îi dai mari bucurii, şi el se bucură înaintea Ta, cum se bucură la seceriş, cum se veseleşte la(B) împărţirea prăzii. 4 Căci jugul care apăsa asupra lui, toiagul(C) care-i lovea spinarea, nuiaua celui ce-l asuprea, le-ai sfărâmat, ca în ziua lui Madian(D).

2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
