39 In quel tempo Merodach-Bàladan figlio di Bàladan, re di Babilonia, mandò lettere e doni a Ezechia, perché aveva udito che era stato malato ed era guarito. 2 Ezechia se ne rallegrò e mostrò agli inviati la stanza del tesoro, l'argento e l'oro, gli aromi e gli unguenti preziosi, tutto il suo arsenale e quanto si trovava nei suoi magazzini; non ci fu nulla che Ezechia non mostrasse loro nella reggia e in tutto il regno.
3 Allora il profeta Isaia si presentò al re Ezechia e gli domandò: «Che hanno detto quegli uomini e da dove sono venuti a te?». Ezechia rispose: «Sono venuti a me da una regione lontana, da Babilonia». 4 Isaia disse ancora: «Che hanno visto nella tua reggia?». Ezechia rispose: «Hanno visto quanto si trova nella mia reggia, non c'è cosa alcuna nei miei magazzini che io non abbia mostrata loro».
5 Allora Isaia disse a Ezechia: «Ascolta la parola del Signore degli eserciti: 6 Ecco, verranno giorni nei quali tutto ciò che si trova nella tua reggia e ciò che hanno accumulato i tuoi antenati fino a oggi sarà portato a Babilonia; non vi resterà nulla, dice il Signore. 7 Prenderanno i figli che da te saranno usciti e che tu avrai generati, per farne eunuchi nella reggia di Babilonia». 8 Ezechia disse a Isaia: «Buona è la parola del Signore, che mi hai riferita». Egli pensava: «Per lo meno vi saranno pace e sicurezza nei miei giorni».

Envoys From Babylon(A)
39 At that time Marduk-Baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon(B) sent Hezekiah letters and a gift, because he had heard of his illness and recovery. 2 Hezekiah received the envoys(C) gladly and showed them what was in his storehouses—the silver, the gold,(D) the spices, the fine olive oil—his entire armory and everything found among his treasures.(E) There was nothing in his palace or in all his kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.
3 Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah and asked, “What did those men say, and where did they come from?”
“From a distant land,(F)” Hezekiah replied. “They came to me from Babylon.”
4 The prophet asked, “What did they see in your palace?”
“They saw everything in my palace,” Hezekiah said. “There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”
5 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word(G) of the Lord Almighty: 6 The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon.(H) Nothing will be left, says the Lord. 7 And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.(I)”
8 “The word of the Lord you have spoken is good,(J)” Hezekiah replied. For he thought, “There will be peace and security in my lifetime.(K)”

And he showed them his treasure house, (C)the silver, the gold, the spices, the precious oil, his whole armory, all that was found in his storehouses. (D)There was nothing in his house or in all his realm that Hezekiah did not show them. 3 Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah, and said to him, “What did these men say? And from where did they come to you?” Hezekiah said, “They have come to me from a far country, from Babylon.” 4 He said, “What have they seen in your house?” Hezekiah answered, “They have seen all that is in my house. There is nothing in my storehouses that I did not show them.”
5 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord of hosts: 6 (E)Behold, the days are coming, when all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have stored up till this day, shall be carried to Babylon. Nothing shall be left, says the Lord. 7 (F)And some of your own sons, who will come from you, whom you will father, shall be taken away, and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.” 8 Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the Lord that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, (G)“There will be peace and security in my days.”

39 (A) Vid den tiden[a] sände Babels kung Merodak-Baladan,[b] Baladans son, brev och en gåva till Hiskia, för han hade fått höra att han hade varit sjuk och blivit frisk igen. 2 Och Hiskia gladde sig över dem och visade sändebuden sin skattkammare, sitt silver och guld, sina kryddor, sin dyrbara olja och hela sitt vapenförråd och allt som fanns i hans förrådshus. Det fanns ingenting i Hiskias hus eller något annat i hans ägo som han inte visade dem.
3 Då kom profeten Jesaja till kung Hiskia och sade till honom: "Vad sade de där männen? Varifrån kom de till dig?" Hiskia svarade: "De kom till mig från ett avlägset land, från Babel." 4 Jesaja frågade: "Vad har de sett i ditt hus?" Hiskia svarade: "De fick se allt som finns i mitt hus. Det finns ingenting i mina förrådshus som jag inte låtit dem se."
5 Då sade Jesaja till Hiskia: "Hör Herren Sebaots ord: 6 (B) Se, dagar ska komma då allt som finns i ditt hus och som dina fäder har samlat ända till denna dag ska föras bort till Babel. Ingenting ska bli kvar, säger Herren. 7 (C) Och man ska ta några av de söner[c] som ska utgå från dig och som du kommer att föda, och de ska bli hovmän i den babyloniske kungens palats." 8 Hiskia sade till Jesaja: "Det är ett gott Herrens ord du har talat." Och han tänkte: "Det blir ju fred och trygghet under min livstid."
