¹⁴ Therefore the ^(A)Lord himself will give you a sign. ^(B)Behold, the ^(C)virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name ^(D)Immanuel.^[a]

Him Whom They Have Pierced

¹⁰ “And ^(A)I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and ^(B)pleas for mercy, so that, ^(C)when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, ^(D)they shall mourn for him, ^(E)as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.

(which means, God ^(C)with us).

Whose Son Is the Christ?

^41 (A)Now while the Pharisees ^(B)were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, ⁴² saying, “What do you think about ^(C)the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, ^(D)“The son of David.” ⁴³ He said to them, “How is it then that David, ^(E)in the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying,

⁴⁵ If then David calls him Lord, ^(G)how is he his son?”

⁷ “Why does this man speak like that? ^(A)He is blaspheming! ^(B)Who can forgive sins but God alone?” ⁸ And immediately Jesus, ^(C)perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question these things in your hearts? ⁹ Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk’? ¹⁰ But that you may know that ^(D)the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic—

^35 (A)And as ^(B)Jesus taught in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that ^(C)the Christ is the son of David? ³⁶ David himself, ^(D)in the Holy Spirit, declared,

³⁷ David himself calls him Lord. So ^(G)how is he his son?” And the great throng ^(H)heard him gladly.

²⁰ And ^(A)when he saw their faith, he said, “Man, ^(B)your sins are forgiven you.” ²¹ And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, “Who is this who speaks ^(C)blasphemies? ^(D)Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

^41 (A)But he said to them, “How can they say that ^(B)the Christ is ^(C)David's son? ⁴² For David himself says in the Book of Psalms,

⁴⁴ David thus calls him Lord, so ^(F)how is he his son?”
