Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

^36 (A)Then Jesus went with them ^(B)to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.” ³⁷ And taking with him ^(C)Peter and ^(D)the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. ³⁸ Then he said to them, ^(E)“My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and ^(F)watch^[a] with me.” ³⁹ And going a little farther he fell on his face ^(G)and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let ^(H)this cup pass from me; ^(I)nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”

Jesus Preaches in Galilee

^35 (A)And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and ^(B)there he prayed. ³⁶ And Simon and those who were with him searched for him, ³⁷ and they found him and said to him, ^(C)“Everyone is looking for you.” ³⁸ And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for ^(D)that is why I came out.” ^39 (E)And ^(F)he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.

Jesus Preaches in Synagogues

^42 (A)And when it was day, he departed and went ^(B)into a desolate place. And ^(C)the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them, ⁴³ but he said to them, ^(D)“I must ^(E)preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose.”

¹⁶ But ^(A)he would withdraw to desolate places and ^(B)pray.

⁵ Let your reasonableness^[a] be known to everyone. ^(A)The Lord is at hand; ^6 (B)do not be anxious about anything, ^(C)but in everything by prayer and supplication ^(D)with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. ⁷ And ^(E)the peace of God, ^(F)which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

^6 (A)Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, ^7 (B)casting all your anxieties on him, because ^(C)he cares for you. ^8 (D)Be sober-minded; ^(E)be watchful. Your ^(F)adversary the devil ^(G)prowls around ^(H)like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
