Isaiah 17:1-5
New King James Version
Proclamation Against Syria and Israel
17 The (A)burden[a] against Damascus.
“Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city,
And it will be a ruinous heap.
2 [b]The cities of (B)Aroer are forsaken;
They will be for flocks
Which lie down, and (C)no one will make them afraid.
3 (D)The fortress also will cease from Ephraim,
The kingdom from Damascus,
And the remnant of Syria;
They will be as the glory of the children of Israel,”
Says the Lord of hosts.
4 “In that day it shall come to pass
That the glory of Jacob will [c]wane,
And (E)the fatness of his flesh grow lean.
5 (F)It shall be as when the harvester gathers the grain,
And reaps the heads with his arm;
It shall be as he who gathers heads of grain
In the Valley of Rephaim.

Isaiah 10:9-11
New King James Version
9 Is not (A)Calno (B)like Carchemish?
Is not Hamath like Arpad?
Is not Samaria (C)like Damascus?
10 As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols,
Whose carved images excelled those of Jerusalem and Samaria,
11 As I have done to Samaria and her idols,
Shall I not do also to Jerusalem and her idols?’ ”

New King James Version
4 (A)for before the child [a]shall have knowledge to cry ‘My father’ and ‘My mother,’ (B)the riches of Damascus and the [b]spoil of Samaria will be taken away before the king of Assyria.”
5 The Lord also spoke to me again, saying:
6 “Inasmuch as these people refused
The waters of (C)Shiloah that flow softly,
And rejoice (D)in Rezin and in Remaliah’s son;
7 Now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up over them
The waters of [c]the River, strong and mighty—
The king of Assyria and all his glory;
He will [d]go up over all his channels
And go over all his banks.
