³⁰ They will roar over it on that day,
    like the roaring of the sea.
And if one look to the land—
    only darkness and distress;
and the light grows dark with its clouds.^(A)

¹⁶ Give glory to the Lord your God
    before he brings darkness
and before your feet stumble
    on the mountains at twilight;
while you look for light,
    he turns it into gloom
    and makes it deep darkness.^(A)

¹⁴ The great day of the Lord is near,
    near and hastening fast;
the sound of the day of the Lord is bitter;
    the warrior cries aloud there.^(A)
15 That day will be a day of wrath,
    a day of distress and anguish,
a day of ruin and devastation,
    a day of darkness and gloom,
a day of clouds and thick darkness,^(B)

⁶ Ask now and see:
    Can a man bear a child?
Why then do I see every man
    with his hands on his loins like a woman in labor?
    Why has every face turned pale?^(A)
7 Alas! that day is so great
    there is none like it;
it is a time of distress for Jacob,
    yet he shall be rescued from it.^(B)

³² The wicked are overthrown by their evildoing,
    but the righteous find a refuge in their integrity.^[a](A)
