¹² But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, nor will I test the Lord!”

⁹ nor let us ^[a]tempt Christ, as ^(A)some of them also tempted, and ^(B)were destroyed by serpents;

⁹ Then Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together ^(A)to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”

³¹ So ^(A)they come to you as people do, they ^(B)sit before you as My people, and they ^(C)hear your words, but they do not do them; ^(D)for with their mouth they show much love, but ^(E)their hearts pursue their own gain.

Apostasy and Death of Ahaz^(A)

²² Now in the time of his distress King Ahaz became increasingly unfaithful to the Lord. This is that King Ahaz.

¹⁵ Then King Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, “On the great new altar burn ^(A)the morning burnt offering, the evening grain offering, the king’s burnt sacrifice, and his grain offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, their grain offering, and their drink offerings; and sprinkle on it all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice. And the bronze altar shall be for me to inquire by.”
