The Lord Vindicates Zion

Hear the word of the Lord,
You who tremble at His word:
“Your brethren who (A)hated you,
Who cast you out for My name’s sake, said,
(B)‘Let the Lord be glorified,
That (C)we may see your joy.’
But they shall be ashamed.”

The World’s Hatred

18 (A)“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 (B)If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet (C)because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, (D)‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. (E)If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 (B)Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of (C)evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 (D)Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for (E)so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Suffering for God’s Glory

12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice (A)to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that (B)when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. 14 If you are [a]reproached for the name of Christ, (C)blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. [b]On their part He is blasphemed, (D)but on your part He is glorified.

(D)These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and (E)from the glory of His power, 10 when He comes, in that Day, (F)to be (G)glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who [b]believe, because our testimony among you was believed.

33 Therefore (A)being exalted [a]to (B)the right hand of God, and (C)having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He (D)poured out this which you now see and hear.

34 “For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself:

(E)‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at My right hand,
35 Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” ’

36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”

37 Now when they heard this, (F)they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”

38 Then Peter said to them, (G)“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the [b]remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and (H)to your children, and (I)to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this [c]perverse generation.” 41 Then those who [d]gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. 42 (J)And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ [e]doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul, and (K)many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all who believed were together, and (L)had all things in common, 45 and [f]sold their possessions and goods, and (M)divided[g] them among all, as anyone had need.

46 (N)So continuing daily with one accord (O)in the temple, and (P)breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And (Q)the Lord added [h]to the church daily those who were being saved.
