True Worship and False

66 Thus says the Lord:

^24 (A)God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is ^(B)Lord of heaven and earth, ^(C)does not dwell in temples made with hands.

⁴⁸ “However, ^(A)the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says:

³⁴ But I say to you, ^(A)do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is ^(B)God’s throne; ³⁵ nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of ^(C)the great King.

²⁷ “But ^(A)will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the ^(B)heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built!

⁵ “Go and tell My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: ^(A)“Would you build a house for Me to dwell in? ⁶ For I have not dwelt in a house ^(B)since the time that I brought the children of Israel up from Egypt, even to this day, but have moved about in ^(C)a tent and in a tabernacle. ⁷ Wherever I have ^(D)moved about with all the children of Israel, have I ever spoken a word to anyone from the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded ^(E)to shepherd My people Israel, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?’ ” ’

²⁰ Our fathers worshiped on ^(A)this mountain, and you Jews say that in ^(B)Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.”

²¹ Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming ^(C)when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.

²¹ He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by ^(A)Him who ^[a]dwells in it. ²² And he who swears by heaven, swears by ^(B)the throne of God and by Him who sits on it.
