⁹ I will bring forth descendants^(A) from Jacob,
    and from Judah those who will possess^(B) my mountains;
my chosen^(C) people will inherit them,
    and there will my servants live.^(D)

“I will restore David’s^(A) fallen shelter^(B)—
    I will repair its broken walls
    and restore its ruins^(C)—
    and will rebuild it as it used to be,^(D)
12 so that they may possess the remnant of Edom^(E)
    and all the nations that bear my name,^[a](F)”
declares the Lord, who will do these things.^(G)

“when the reaper^(I) will be overtaken by the plowman^(J)
    and the planter by the one treading^(K) grapes.
New wine^(L) will drip from the mountains
    and flow from all the hills,^(M)
14     and I will bring^(N) my people Israel back from exile.^[b](O)

“They will rebuild the ruined cities^(P) and live in them.
    They will plant vineyards^(Q) and drink their wine;
    they will make gardens and eat their fruit.^(R)
15 I will plant^(S) Israel in their own land,^(T)
    never again to be uprooted^(U)
    from the land I have given them,”^(V)

says the Lord your God.^(W)

⁶ In days to come Jacob will take root,^(A)
    Israel will bud and blossom^(B)
    and fill all the world with fruit.^(C)

⁶ “I will strengthen^(A) Judah
    and save the tribes of Joseph.
I will restore them
    because I have compassion^(B) on them.^(C)
They will be as though
    I had not rejected them,
for I am the Lord their God
    and I will answer^(D) them.
⁷ The Ephraimites will become like warriors,
    and their hearts will be glad as with wine.^(E)
Their children will see it and be joyful;
    their hearts will rejoice^(F) in the Lord.
⁸ I will signal^(G) for them
    and gather them in.
Surely I will redeem them;
    they will be as numerous^(H) as before.
⁹ Though I scatter them among the peoples,
    yet in distant lands they will remember me.^(I)
They and their children will survive,
    and they will return.
¹⁰ I will bring them back from Egypt
    and gather them from Assyria.^(J)
I will bring them to Gilead^(K) and Lebanon,
    and there will not be room^(L) enough for them.
¹¹ They will pass through the sea of trouble;
    the surging sea will be subdued
    and all the depths of the Nile will dry up.^(M)
Assyria’s pride^(N) will be brought down
    and Egypt’s scepter^(O) will pass away.^(P)
12 I will strengthen^(Q) them in the Lord
    and in his name they will live securely,^(R)”
declares the Lord.

²⁰ At that time I will gather you;
    at that time I will bring^(A) you home.
I will give you honor^(B) and praise^(C)
    among all the peoples of the earth
when I restore your fortunes^[a](D)
    before your very eyes,”
says the Lord.

¹⁷ But on Mount Zion will be deliverance;^(A)
    it will be holy,^(B)
    and Jacob will possess his inheritance.^(C)
18 Jacob will be a fire
    and Joseph a flame;
Esau will be stubble,
    and they will set him on fire^(D) and destroy^(E) him.
There will be no survivors^(F)
    from Esau.”
The Lord has spoken.

¹⁹ People from the Negev will occupy
    the mountains of Esau,
and people from the foothills will possess
    the land of the Philistines.^(G)
They will occupy the fields of Ephraim and Samaria,^(H)
    and Benjamin^(I) will possess Gilead.
²⁰ This company of Israelite exiles who are in Canaan
    will possess the land as far as Zarephath;^(J)
the exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sepharad
    will possess the towns of the Negev.^(K)
21 Deliverers^(L) will go up on^[a] Mount Zion
    to govern the mountains of Esau.
    And the kingdom will be the Lord’s.^(M)
