Psalm 98

Praise the Judge of the World

A Psalm.

O sing to the Lord a new song,
    for he has done marvelous things.
His right hand and his holy arm
    have gotten him victory.(A)
The Lord has made known his victory;
    he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations.(B)
He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness
    to the house of Israel.
All the ends of the earth have seen
    the victory of our God.(C)

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
    break forth into joyous song and sing praises.(D)
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
    with the lyre and the sound of melody.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn
    make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord.(E)

Let the sea roar and all that fills it,
    the world and those who live in it.(F)
Let the floods clap their hands;
    let the hills sing together for joy(G)
at the presence of the Lord, for he is coming
    to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness
    and the peoples with equity.(H)

The Rejoicing in Heaven

19 After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying,

“Hallelujah!
Salvation and glory and power to our God,(A)
    for his judgments are true and just;
he has judged the great whore[a]
    who corrupted the earth with her prostitution,
and he has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”(B)

Once more they said,

“Hallelujah!
The smoke goes up from her forever and ever.”(C)

And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who is seated on the throne, saying,

“Amen. Hallelujah!”(D)

And from the throne came a voice saying,

“Praise our God,
    all you his servants
and[b] all who fear him,
    small and great.”(E)

Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty thunderpeals, crying out,

“Hallelujah!
For the Lord[c] God
    the Almighty reigns.(F)

15 Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying,

“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord
    and of his Messiah,[a]
and he will reign forever and ever.”(A)

16 Then the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God,(B) 17 singing,

    who are and who were,
for you have taken your great power
    and begun to reign.(C)

    but your wrath has come,

for rewarding your servants, the prophets
    and saints and all who fear your name,
    both small and great,
and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”(D)
