¹⁰ “Foreigners^(A) will rebuild your walls,
    and their kings^(B) will serve you.
Though in anger I struck you,
    in favor^(C) I will show you compassion.^(D)

⁵ Strangers^(A) will shepherd your flocks;
    foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.

²³ Kings^(A) will be your foster fathers,
    and their queens your nursing mothers.^(B)
They will bow down^(C) before you with their faces to the ground;
    they will lick the dust^(D) at your feet.
Then you will know that I am the Lord;^(E)
    those who hope^(F) in me will not be disappointed.^(G)”

¹⁷ I was enraged by their sinful greed;^(A)
    I punished them, and hid^(B) my face in anger,
    yet they kept on in their willful ways.^(C)
18 I have seen their ways, but I will heal^(D) them;
    I will guide^(E) them and restore comfort^(F) to Israel’s mourners,

⁷ “For a brief moment^(A) I abandoned^(B) you,
    but with deep compassion^(C) I will bring you back.^(D)
8 In a surge of anger^(E)
    I hid^(F) my face from you for a moment,
but with everlasting kindness^(G)
