30 Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.
31 “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
32 This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading:
“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,
and as a lamb before its shearer is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
33 In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.
Who can speak of his descendants?
For his life was taken from the earth.”[b](G)
34 The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” 35 Then Philip began(H) with that very passage of Scripture(I) and told him the good news(J) about Jesus.
36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?”(K) [37] [c] 38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away,(L) and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. 40 Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns(M) until he reached Caesarea.(N)

22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich(O) to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”
26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”(P)
27 Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you!(Q) What then will there be for us?”
28 Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne,(R) you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.(S) 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[c] or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.(T) 30 But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.(U)

He was to teach them the language(D) and literature of the Babylonians.[a] 5 The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine(E) from the king’s table.(F) They were to be trained for three years,(G) and after that they were to enter the king’s service.(H)
6 Among those who were chosen were some from Judah: Daniel,(I) Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.(J) 7 The chief official gave them new names: to Daniel, the name Belteshazzar;(K) to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.(L)
8 But Daniel resolved not to defile(M) himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. 9 Now God had caused the official to show favor(N) and compassion(O) to Daniel, 10 but the official told Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has assigned your[b] food and drink.(P) Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men your age? The king would then have my head because of you.”
11 Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, 12 “Please test(Q) your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.”(R) 14 So he agreed to this and tested(S) them for ten days.
15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.(T) 16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.(U)
17 To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding(V) of all kinds of literature and learning.(W) And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.(X)
18 At the end of the time(Y) set by the king to bring them into his service, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar. 19 The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king’s service.(Z) 20 In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians(AA) and enchanters in his whole kingdom.(AB)
21 And Daniel remained there until the first year of King Cyrus.(AC)

They have thrown him into a cistern,(D) where he will starve to death when there is no longer any bread(E) in the city.”
10 Then the king commanded Ebed-Melek the Cushite, “Take thirty men from here with you and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the cistern before he dies.”
11 So Ebed-Melek took the men with him and went to a room under the treasury in the palace. He took some old rags and worn-out clothes from there and let them down with ropes(F) to Jeremiah in the cistern. 12 Ebed-Melek the Cushite said to Jeremiah, “Put these old rags and worn-out clothes under your arms to pad the ropes.” Jeremiah did so, 13 and they pulled him up with the ropes and lifted him out of the cistern. And Jeremiah remained in the courtyard of the guard.(G)
