¹⁶ “See, it is I who created the blacksmith^(A)
    who fans the coals into flame
    and forges a weapon^(B) fit for its work.
And it is I who have created the destroyer^(C) to wreak havoc;

⁴ The Lord works out everything to its proper end^(A)—
    even the wicked for a day of disaster.^(B)

¹¹ From the east I summon^(A) a bird of prey;^(B)
    from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose.
What I have said, that I will bring about;
    what I have planned,^(C) that I will do.^(D)

¹⁵ Does the ax raise itself above the person who swings it,
    or the saw boast against the one who uses it?^(A)
As if a rod were to wield the person who lifts it up,
    or a club^(B) brandish the one who is not wood!

His dominion is an eternal dominion;
    his kingdom^(C) endures from generation to generation.^(D)
35 All the peoples of the earth
    are regarded as nothing.^(E)
He does as he pleases^(F)
    with the powers of heaven
    and the peoples of the earth.
No one can hold back^(G) his hand^(H)
    or say to him: “What have you done?”^(I)

²⁶ “Have you not heard?
    Long ago I ordained^(A) it.
In days of old I planned^(B) it;
    now I have brought it to pass,
that you have turned fortified cities
    into piles of stone.^(C)
