⁶ who, ^(A)being in the form of God, did not consider it ^[a]robbery to be equal with God, ^7 (B)but ^[b]made Himself of no reputation, taking the form ^(C)of a bondservant, and ^(D)coming in the likeness of men.

The Reign of Jesse’s Offspring^(A)

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and ^(A)the world did not know Him. ^11 (B)He came to His ^[a]own, and His ^[b]own did not receive Him. ¹² But ^(C)as many as received Him, to them He gave the ^[c]right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: ^13 (D)who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

The Word Becomes Flesh

^14 (E)And the Word ^(F)became ^(G)flesh and dwelt among us, and ^(H)we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, ^(I)full of grace and truth.

Israel Exalted at Last^(A)

²² Thus says the Lord God: “I will take also one of the highest ^(B)branches of the high cedar and set it out. I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs ^(C)a tender one, and will ^(D)plant it on a high and prominent mountain. ^23 (E)On the mountain height of Israel I will plant it; and it will bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a majestic cedar. ^(F)Under it will dwell birds of every sort; in the shadow of its branches they will dwell. ²⁴ And all the trees of the field shall know that I, the Lord, ^(G)have brought down the high tree and exalted the low tree, dried up the green tree and made the dry tree flourish; ^(H)I, the Lord, have spoken and have done it.”

¹⁴ Now ^(A)it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold your King!”

¹⁵ But they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify Him!”

Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?”

The chief priests answered, ^(B)“We have no king but Caesar!”

¹² Then He answered and told them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And ^(A)how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and ^(B)be treated with contempt?
