⁹ But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people,^[a] in order that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.^(A)

²¹ To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (though I am not outside God’s law but am within Christ’s law) so that I might gain those outside the law.^(A)

² For the law of the Spirit^[a] of life in Christ Jesus has set you^[b] free from the law of sin and of death.^{(A) 3} For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and to deal with sin,^[c] he condemned sin in the flesh,^{(B) 4} so that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.^[d](C)

⁸ And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong about^[a] sin and righteousness and judgment: ⁹ about sin, because they do not believe in me; ¹⁰ about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, and you will see me no longer; ¹¹ about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.^(A)
