(A)I will take away its hedge, and it shall be burned;
And break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down.

49 (A)The Lord will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, (B)as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a nation of fierce countenance, (C)which does not respect the elderly nor show favor to the young. 51 And they shall eat the increase of your livestock and the produce of your land, until you are destroyed; they shall not leave you grain or new wine or oil, or the increase of your cattle or the offspring of your flocks, until they have destroyed you.

She (A)weeps bitterly in the (B)night,
Her tears are on her cheeks;
Among all her lovers
She has none to comfort her.
All her friends have dealt treacherously with her;
They have become her enemies.

(C)Judah has gone into captivity,
Under affliction and hard servitude;
(D)She dwells among the [a]nations,
She finds no (E)rest;
All her persecutors overtake her in dire straits.

The roads to Zion mourn
Because no one comes to the [b]set feasts.
All her gates are (F)desolate;
Her priests sigh,
Her virgins are afflicted,
And she is in bitterness.

Her adversaries (G)have become [c]the master,
Her enemies prosper;
For the Lord has afflicted her
(H)Because of the multitude of her transgressions.
Her (I)children have gone into captivity before the enemy.

And from the daughter of Zion
All her splendor has departed.
Her princes have become like deer
That find no pasture,
That [d]flee without strength
Before the pursuer.

In the days of her affliction and roaming,
Jerusalem (J)remembers all her pleasant things
That she had in the days of old.
When her people fell into the hand of the enemy,
With no one to help her,
The adversaries saw her
And mocked at her [e]downfall.

(K)Jerusalem has sinned gravely,
Therefore she has become [f]vile.
All who honored her despise her
Because (L)they have seen her nakedness;
Yes, she sighs and turns away.

Her uncleanness is in her skirts;
She (M)did not consider her destiny;
Therefore her collapse was awesome;
She had no comforter.
“O Lord, behold my affliction,
For the enemy is exalted!”

10 Yet the fortified city will be (A)desolate,
The habitation forsaken and left like a wilderness;

A Plea for Relief from Oppressors

A [a]Contemplation of Asaph.

74 O God, why have You cast us off forever?
Why does Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture?
Remember Your congregation, which You have purchased of old,
The tribe of Your inheritance, which You have redeemed—
This Mount Zion where You have dwelt.
Lift up Your feet to the perpetual desolations.
The enemy has damaged everything in the sanctuary.
(A)Your enemies roar in the midst of Your meeting place;
(B)They set up their banners for signs.
They seem like men who lift up
Axes among the thick trees.
And now they break down its carved work, all at once,
With axes and hammers.
They have set fire to Your sanctuary;
They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name to the ground.
(C)They said in their hearts,
“Let us [b]destroy them altogether.”
They have burned up all the meeting places of God in the land.

We do not see our signs;
(D)There is no longer any prophet;
Nor is there any among us who knows how long.
10 O God, how long will the adversary [c]reproach?
Will the enemy blaspheme Your name forever?
