²⁹ Their roar is like that of the lion,^(A)
    they roar like young lions;
they growl as they seize^(B) their prey
    and carry it off with no one to rescue.^(C)

³ Listen to the wail of the shepherds;
    their rich pastures are destroyed!
Listen to the roar of the lions;^(A)
    the lush thicket of the Jordan is ruined!^(B)

⁸ The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations,
    in the midst of many peoples,
like a lion among the beasts of the forest,^(A)
    like a young lion among flocks of sheep,
which mauls and mangles^(B) as it goes,
    and no one can rescue.^(C)

²⁴ Can plunder be taken from warriors,^(A)
    or captives be rescued from the fierce^[a]?

“Yes, captives^(B) will be taken from warriors,^(C)
    and plunder retrieved from the fierce;^(D)
I will contend with those who contend with you,^(E)
    and your children I will save.^(F)

⁸ The lion^(A) has roared^(B)—
    who will not fear?
The Sovereign Lord has spoken—
    who can but prophesy?^(C)

¹⁰ They will follow the Lord;
    he will roar^(A) like a lion.^(B)
When he roars,
    his children will come trembling^(C) from the west.^(D)

³⁸ Her people all roar like young lions,^(A)
    they growl like lion cubs.
