^12 (A)The harp and the strings,
The tambourine and flute,
And wine are in their feasts;
But ^(B)they do not regard the work of the Lord,
Nor consider the operation of His hands.

⁴ Who lie on beds of ivory,
Stretch out on your couches,
Eat lambs from the flock
And calves from the midst of the stall;
^5 (A)Who sing idly to the sound of stringed instruments,
And invent for yourselves ^(B)musical instruments ^(C)like David;
⁶ Who ^(D)drink wine from bowls,
And anoint yourselves with the best ointments,
^(E)But are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

⁵ Because ^(A)they do not regard the works of the Lord,
Nor the operation of His hands,
He shall destroy them
And not build them up.

²⁷ Because they ^(A)turned back from Him,
And ^(B)would not consider any of His ways,

¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock,
And their children dance.
¹² They sing to the tambourine and harp,
And rejoice to the sound of the flute.
¹³ They ^(A)spend their days in wealth,
And ^[a]in a moment go down to the ^[b]grave.
^14 (B)Yet they say to God, ‘Depart from us,
For we do not desire the knowledge of Your ways.

¹⁰ For ^(A)they shall eat, but not have enough;
They shall commit harlotry, but not increase;
Because they have ceased obeying the Lord.

¹¹ “Harlotry, wine, and new wine ^(B)enslave the heart.
