²¹ Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,

And all shipmasters and seafarers, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off^{(B) 18} and cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning,

¹⁹ And they threw dust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out,

¹⁸ The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.”^(A)

³ So he carried me away in the spirit^[a] into a wilderness, and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and ten horns.^{(A) 4} The woman was clothed in purple and scarlet and adorned with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her prostitution,^{(B) 5} and on her forehead was written a name, a mystery: “Babylon the great, mother^[b] of whores^[c] and of earth’s abominations.”^(C)

¹³ wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the deepest darkness has been reserved forever.^(A)

¹² and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding robe?’ And he was speechless.^{(A) 13} Then the king said to the attendants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’^(B)
