⁴⁰ For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son^(A) and believes in him shall have eternal life,^(B) and I will raise them up at the last day.”

² fixing our eyes on Jesus,^(A) the pioneer^(B) and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross,^(C) scorning its shame,^(D) and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.^(E)

⁸ The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole;^(A) anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” ⁹ So Moses made a bronze snake^(B) and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.^(C)

¹³ No one has ever gone into heaven^(A) except the one who came from heaven^(B)—the Son of Man.^{[a](C) 14} Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness,^(D) so the Son of Man must be lifted up,^{[b](E) 15} that everyone who believes^(F) may have eternal life in him.”^[c](G)

¹⁶ For God so loved^(H) the world that he gave^(I) his one and only Son,^(J) that whoever believes^(K) in him shall not perish but have eternal life.^(L)

Mourning for the One They Pierced

¹⁰ “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit^[a](A) of grace and supplication.^(B) They will look on^[b] me, the one they have pierced,^(C) and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child,^(D) and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.^(E)
