²⁰ And when he came to the den, he cried out with a ^[a]lamenting voice to Daniel. The king spoke, saying to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the living God, ^(A)has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?”

²¹ Then Daniel said to the king, ^(B)“O king, live forever! ^22 (C)My God sent His angel and ^(D)shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you.”

¹⁶ So the king gave the command, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. But the king spoke, saying to Daniel, “Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you.”

^29 (A)Therefore I make a decree that any people, nation, or language which speaks anything amiss against the ^(B)God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego shall be ^(C)cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made an ash heap; ^(D)because there is no other God who can deliver like this.”

¹⁷ If that is the case, our ^(A)God whom we serve is able to ^(B)deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.

³⁸ Now it came to pass, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him down with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Then ^(A)Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.

¹⁹ Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Indeed, have they delivered ^(A)Samaria from my hand? ²⁰ Who among all the gods of these lands have delivered their countries from my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem from my hand?’ ”

²⁶ So they took the bull which was given them, and they prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even till noon, saying, “O Baal, ^[a]hear us!” But there was ^(A)no voice; no one answered. Then they ^[b]leaped about the altar which they had made.
