¹³ The carpenter stretches a line; he marks it out with a pencil.^[a] He shapes it with planes and marks it with a compass. ^(A)He shapes it into the figure of a man, with the beauty of a man, to dwell in a house.

⁴ So when he restored the money to his mother, his mother ^(A)took 200 pieces of silver and gave it to the silversmith, who made it into a carved image and a metal image. And it was in the house of Micah. ⁵ And the man Micah had a shrine, and he made ^(B)an ephod and ^(C)household gods, and ^(D)ordained^[a] one of his sons, who became his priest.

²³ and ^(A)exchanged the glory of ^(B)the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

^29 (A)Being then God's offspring, ^(B)we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man.

¹⁶ beware ^(A)lest you act corruptly ^(B)by making a carved image for yourselves, in the form of any figure, ^(C)the likeness of male or female, ¹⁷ the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, ¹⁸ the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth.

¹² Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing ^(A)in the dark, each ^(B)in his room of pictures? For they say, ^(C)‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.’”

²⁴ And he said, ^(A)“You take my gods that I made and the priest, and go away, and what have I left? How then do you ask me, ‘What is the matter with you?’”
