The Seven Bowls

16 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying (A)to the seven angels, “Go and pour out the [a]bowls (B)of the wrath of God on the earth.”

First Bowl: Loathsome Sores

So the first went and poured out his bowl (C)upon the earth, and a [b]foul and (D)loathsome sore came upon the men (E)who had the mark of the beast and those (F)who worshiped his image.

Second Bowl: The Sea Turns to Blood

Then the second angel poured out his bowl (G)on the sea, and (H)it became blood as of a dead man; (I)and every living creature in the sea died.

Third Bowl: The Waters Turn to Blood

Then the third angel poured out his bowl (J)on the rivers and springs of water, (K)and they became blood. And I heard the angel of the waters saying:

(L)“You are righteous, [c]O Lord,
The One (M)who is and who [d]was and who is to be,
Because You have judged these things.
For (N)they have shed the blood (O)of saints and prophets,
(P)And You have given them blood to drink.
[e]For it is their just due.”

And I heard [f]another from the altar saying, “Even so, (Q)Lord God Almighty, (R)true and righteous are Your judgments.”

Fourth Bowl: Men Are Scorched

Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl (S)on the sun, (T)and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and they (U)blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; (V)and they did not repent (W)and give Him glory.

Fifth Bowl: Darkness and Pain

10 Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl (X)on the throne of the beast, (Y)and his kingdom became full of darkness; (Z)and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain. 11 They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds.

Sixth Bowl: Euphrates Dried Up

12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl (AA)on the great river Euphrates, (AB)and its water was dried up, (AC)so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean (AD)spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of (AE)the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of (AF)the false prophet. 14 For they are spirits of demons, (AG)performing signs, which go out to the kings [g]of the earth and of (AH)the whole world, to gather them to (AI)the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

15 (AJ)“Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, (AK)lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”

16 (AL)And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, [h]Armageddon.

Seventh Bowl: The Earth Utterly Shaken

17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, (AM)“It is done!” 18 And (AN)there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; (AO)and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake (AP)as had not occurred since men were on the earth. 19 Now (AQ)the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And (AR)great Babylon (AS)was remembered before God, (AT)to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. 20 Then (AU)every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great.

18 By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed—by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone which came out of their mouths. 19 For [a]their power is in their mouth and in their tails; (A)for their tails are like serpents, having heads; and with them they do harm.

20 But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, (B)did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship (C)demons, (D)and idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. 21 And they did not repent of their murders (E)or their [b]sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts.

15 and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant,

16 I also will do this to you:

I will even appoint terror over you, (A)wasting disease and fever which shall (B)consume the eyes and (C)cause sorrow of heart.

And (D)you shall sow your seed [a]in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

17 I will [b]set (E)My face against you, and (F)you shall be defeated by your enemies.

(G)Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall (H)flee when no one pursues you.

18 ‘And after all this, if you do not obey Me, then I will punish you (I)seven times more for your sins.

19 I will (J)break the pride of your power;

I (K)will make your heavens like iron and your earth like bronze.

20 And your (L)strength shall be spent in vain;

for your (M)land shall not yield its produce, nor shall the trees of the land yield their fruit.

21 ‘Then, if you walk contrary to Me, and are not willing to obey Me, I will bring on you seven times more plagues, according to your sins.

22 (N)I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, destroy your livestock, and make you few in number;

and (O)your highways shall be desolate.

23 ‘And if (P)by these things you are not reformed by Me, but walk contrary to Me,

24 (Q)then I also will walk contrary to you, and I will punish you yet seven times for your sins.

25 And (R)I will bring a sword against you that will execute the vengeance of the covenant;

when you are gathered together within your cities (S)I will send pestilence among you;

and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

26 (T)When I have cut off your supply of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall bring back your bread by weight, (U)and you shall eat and not be satisfied.

27 ‘And after all this, if you do not obey Me, but walk contrary to Me,

28 then I also will walk contrary to you in fury;

and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

29 (V)You[c] shall eat the flesh of your sons, and you shall eat the flesh of your daughters.

30 (W)I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and cast your carcasses on the lifeless forms of your idols;

and My soul shall abhor you.

31 I will lay your (X)cities waste and (Y)bring your sanctuaries to desolation, and I will not (Z)smell the fragrance of your [d]sweet aromas.

32 (AA)I will bring the land to desolation, and your enemies who dwell in it shall be astonished at it.

33 (AB)I will scatter you among the nations and draw out a sword after you;

your land shall be desolate and your cities waste.

34 (AC)Then the land shall enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and you are in your enemies’ land;

then the land shall rest and enjoy its sabbaths.

35 As long as it lies desolate it shall rest—

for the time it did not rest on your (AD)sabbaths when you dwelt in it.

36 ‘And as for those of you who are left, I will send (AE)faintness[e] into their hearts in the lands of their enemies;

the sound of a shaken leaf shall cause them to flee;

they shall flee as though fleeing from a sword, and they shall fall when no one pursues.

37 (AF)They shall stumble over one another, as it were before a sword, when no one pursues;

and (AG)you shall have no power to stand before your enemies.

38 You shall (AH)perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.

39 And those of you who are left (AI)shall [f]waste away in their iniquity in your enemies’ lands;

also in their (AJ)fathers’ iniquities, which are with them, they shall waste away.

40 But (AK)if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, with their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, and that they also have walked contrary to Me,

41 and that I also have walked contrary to them and have brought them into the land of their enemies;

if their (AL)uncircumcised hearts are (AM)humbled, and they (AN)accept their guilt—

42 then I will (AO)remember My covenant with Jacob, and My covenant with Isaac and My covenant with Abraham I will remember;

I will (AP)remember the land.

43 (AQ)The land also shall be left empty by them, and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them;

they will accept their guilt, because they (AR)despised My judgments and because their soul abhorred My statutes.

44 Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, (AS)I will not cast them away, nor shall I abhor them, to utterly destroy them and break My covenant with them;

for I am the Lord their God.

45 But (AT)for their sake I will remember the covenant of their ancestors, (AU)whom I brought out of the land of Egypt (AV)in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God:

I am the Lord.’ ”
