¹⁶ He saw that there was no one,^(A)
    he was appalled that there was no one to intervene;^(B)
so his own arm achieved salvation^(C) for him,
    and his own righteousness^(D) sustained him.
¹⁷ He put on righteousness as his breastplate,^(E)
    and the helmet^(F) of salvation on his head;
he put on the garments^(G) of vengeance^(H)
    and wrapped himself in zeal^(I) as in a cloak.
¹⁸ According to what they have done,
    so will he repay^(J)
wrath to his enemies
    and retribution to his foes;
    he will repay the islands^(K) their due.
¹⁹ From the west,^(L) people will fear the name of the Lord,
    and from the rising of the sun,^(M) they will revere his glory.^(N)
For he will come like a pent-up flood
    that the breath^(O) of the Lord drives along.^[a]

⁶⁵ Then the Lord awoke as from sleep,^(A)
    as a warrior wakes from the stupor of wine.

“The Lord roars^(A) from Zion
    and thunders^(B) from Jerusalem;^(C)
the pastures of the shepherds dry up,
    and the top of Carmel^(D) withers.”^(E)

⁵ The Lord is at your right hand^[a];^(A)
    he will crush kings^(B) on the day of his wrath.^(C)
6 He will judge the nations,^(D) heaping up the dead^(E)
    and crushing the rulers^(F) of the whole earth.

“I will sing^(B) to the Lord,
    for he is highly exalted.
Both horse and driver^(C)
    he has hurled into the sea.^(D)

² “The Lord is my strength^(E) and my defense^[a];
    he has become my salvation.^(F)
He is my God,^(G) and I will praise him,
    my father’s God, and I will exalt^(H) him.
³ The Lord is a warrior;^(I)
    the Lord is his name.^(J)

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold
    will be able to save them
    on the day of the Lord’s wrath.”^(A)

In the fire of his jealousy^(B)
    the whole earth will be consumed,^(C)
for he will make a sudden end
    of all who live on the earth.^(D)
