⁴ Every valley shall be raised up,^(A)
    every mountain and hill^(B) made low;
the rough ground shall become level,^(C)
    the rugged places a plain.

⁵ Every valley shall be filled in,
    every mountain and hill made low.
The crooked roads shall become straight,
    the rough ways smooth.

² I will go before you^(A)
    and will level^(B) the mountains^[a];
I will break down gates^(C) of bronze
    and cut through bars of iron.^(D)

¹⁵ I will lay waste^(A) the mountains^(B) and hills
    and dry up all their vegetation;
I will turn rivers into islands
    and dry up^(C) the pools.
¹⁶ I will lead^(D) the blind^(E) by ways they have not known,
    along unfamiliar paths I will guide them;
I will turn the darkness into light^(F) before them
    and make the rough places smooth.^(G)
These are the things I will do;
    I will not forsake^(H) them.

⁷ He raises the poor^(A) from the dust
    and lifts the needy^(B) from the ash heap;
⁸ he seats them^(C) with princes,
    with the princes of his people.

¹² The Lord Almighty has a day^(A) in store
    for all the proud^(B) and lofty,^(C)
for all that is exalted^(D)
    (and they will be humbled),^(E)
13 for all the cedars of Lebanon,^(F) tall and lofty,^(G)
    and all the oaks of Bashan,^(H)
14 for all the towering mountains
    and all the high hills,^(I)
15 for every lofty tower^(J)
    and every fortified wall,^(K)
