^17 (A)Behold, it was for my welfare
    that I had great bitterness;
^(B)but in love you have delivered my life
    from the pit of destruction,

    behind your back.

^18 (A)Who is a God like you, ^(B)pardoning iniquity
    and passing over transgression
    ^(C)for the remnant of his inheritance?
^(D)He does not retain his anger forever,
    because he delights in steadfast love.
¹⁹ He will ^(E)again have compassion on us;
    ^(F)he will tread our iniquities underfoot.

    into the depths of the sea.

⁶     at the roots of the mountains.
I went down to the land
    whose bars closed upon me forever;
yet you brought up my life from the pit,
    O Lord my God.

³ O Lord, you have brought up my soul from ^(A)Sheol;
    you restored me to life from among those who ^(B)go down to the pit.^[a]

^13 (A)For great is your steadfast love toward me;
    you have ^(B)delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

⁴ I am counted among those who ^(A)go down to the pit;
    I am a man who has no strength,
⁵ like one set loose among the dead,
    like the slain that lie in the grave,
like those whom ^(B)you remember no more,
    for they are ^(C)cut off from your hand.
⁶ You have put me in ^(D)the depths of the pit,
    in the ^(E)regions dark and ^(F)deep.

² You ^(A)forgave the iniquity of your people;
