⁸ The Rabshakeh returned and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah, for he had heard that the king had left Lachish.

²⁹ Then Joshua passed on from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, to Libnah and fought against Libnah.^(A)

¹⁰ So Edom has been in revolt against the rule of Judah to this day. At that time Libnah also revolted against his rule because he had forsaken the Lord, the God of his ancestors.

Sennacherib’s Threat

⁸ The Rabshakeh returned and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah, for he had heard that the king had left Lachish.^{(A) 9} When the king^[a] heard concerning King Tirhakah of Cush, “See, he has set out to fight against you,” he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,

²² So Edom has been in revolt against the rule of Judah to this day. Libnah also revolted at the same time.^(A)

¹³ To the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron, the city of refuge for the slayer, with its pasturelands, Libnah with its pasturelands,^(A)

³¹ Next Joshua passed on from Libnah, and all Israel with him, to Lachish and laid siege to it and assaulted it.^{(A) 32} The Lord gave Lachish into the hand of Israel, and he took it on the second day and struck it with the edge of the sword, and every person in it, as he had done to Libnah.

³³ Then King Horam of Gezer came up to help Lachish, and Joshua struck him and his people, leaving him no survivors.

³⁴ From Lachish Joshua passed on with all Israel to Eglon, and they laid siege to it and assaulted it,

²⁰ They set out from Rimmon-perez and camped at Libnah.^{(A) 21} They set out from Libnah and camped at Rissah.
