“He will not enter this city^(A)
    or shoot an arrow here.
He will not come before it with shield
    or build a siege ramp^(B) against it.

²⁰ Look on Zion,^(A) the city of our festivals;
    your eyes will see Jerusalem,
    a peaceful abode,^(B) a tent^(C) that will not be moved;^(D)
its stakes will never be pulled up,
    nor any of its ropes broken.

¹⁴ In the evening, sudden^(A) terror!^(B)
    Before the morning, they are gone!^(C)
This is the portion of those who loot us,
    the lot of those who plunder us.

¹² Woe to the many nations that rage^(A)—
    they rage like the raging sea!^(B)
Woe to the peoples who roar^(C)—
    they roar like the roaring of great waters!^(D)

³² This day they will halt at Nob;^(A)
    they will shake their fist^(B)
at the mount of Daughter Zion,^(C)
    at the hill of Jerusalem.

³³ See, the Lord, the Lord Almighty,
    will lop off^(D) the boughs with great power.
The lofty trees will be felled,^(E)
    the tall^(F) ones will be brought low.^(G)
34 He will cut down^(H) the forest thickets with an ax;
    Lebanon^(I) will fall before the Mighty One.^(J)

⁷ therefore the Lord is about to bring against them
    the mighty floodwaters^(A) of the Euphrates—
    the king of Assyria^(B) with all his pomp.^(C)
It will overflow all its channels,
    run over all its banks^(D)
8 and sweep on into Judah, swirling over it,^(E)
    passing through it and reaching up to the neck.
Its outspread wings^(F) will cover the breadth of your land,
    Immanuel^[a]!”^(G)

    Listen, all you distant lands.
Prepare^(J) for battle, and be shattered!

¹⁰ Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted;^(K)
    propose your plan, but it will not stand,^(L)
    for God is with us.^[c](M)
