Isaiah 36:18-20
New King James Version
18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, “The Lord will deliver us.” Has any one of the (A)gods of the nations delivered its land from the hand of the king of Assyria? 19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Indeed, have they delivered (B)Samaria from my hand? 20 Who among all the gods of these lands have delivered their countries from my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem from my hand?’ ”

New King James Version
18 Truly, Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their (A)lands, 19 and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were (B)not gods, but the work of men’s hands—wood and stone. Therefore they destroyed them.

Isaiah 10:7-14
New King James Version
7 (A)Yet he does not mean so,
Nor does his heart think so;
But it is in his heart to destroy,
And cut off not a few nations.
8 (B)For he says,
‘Are not my princes altogether kings?
9 Is not (C)Calno (D)like Carchemish?
Is not Hamath like Arpad?
Is not Samaria (E)like Damascus?
10 As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols,
Whose carved images excelled those of Jerusalem and Samaria,
11 As I have done to Samaria and her idols,
Shall I not do also to Jerusalem and her idols?’ ”
12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Lord has [a]performed all His work (F)on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, that He will say, (G)“I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his haughty looks.”
13 (H)For he says:
“By the strength of my hand I have done it,
And by my wisdom, for I am prudent;
Also I have removed the boundaries of the people,
And have robbed their treasuries;
So I have put down the inhabitants like a [b]valiant man.
14 (I)My hand has found like a nest the riches of the people,
And as one gathers eggs that are left,
I have gathered all the earth;
And there was no one who moved his wing,
Nor opened his mouth with even a peep.”

4 And the king of Assyria uncovered a conspiracy by Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and brought no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.
