The Narrow and Wide Gates

¹³ “Enter through the narrow gate.^(A) For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. ¹⁴ But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

⁶ Jesus answered, “I am^(A) the way^(B) and the truth^(C) and the life.^(D) No one comes to the Father except through me.^(E)

²⁰ by a new and living way^(A) opened for us through the curtain,^(B) that is, his body, ²¹ and since we have a great priest^(C) over the house of God,^{(D) 22} let us draw near to God^(E) with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings,^(F) having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience^(G) and having our bodies washed with pure water.^{(H) 23} Let us hold unswervingly to the hope^(I) we profess,^(J) for he who promised is faithful.^(K)

²⁷ Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful,^(A) but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.^(B)

⁹ But you are a chosen people,^(A) a royal priesthood,^(B) a holy nation,^(C) God’s special possession,^(D) that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.^{(E) 10} Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God;^(F) once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

¹⁴ As obedient^(A) children, do not conform^(B) to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.^{(C) 15} But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;^(D)

⁹ He has saved^(A) us and called^(B) us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done^(C) but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
