¹⁷ He has cast the lot for them,
And His hand has divided it among them with a measuring line.
They shall possess it forever;
From generation to generation they shall dwell in it.”

¹⁰ It shall not be quenched night or day;
^(A)Its smoke shall ascend forever.
^(B)From generation to generation it shall lie waste;
No one shall pass through it forever and ever.

^25 (A)This is your lot,
The portion of your measures from Me,” says the Lord,
“Because you have forgotten Me
And trusted in ^(B)falsehood.

¹⁴ Then behold, at eventide, trouble!
And before the morning, he is no more.
This is the portion of those who plunder us,
And the lot of those who rob us.

^20 (A)It will never be inhabited,
Nor will it be settled from generation to generation;
Nor will the Arabian pitch tents there,
Nor will the shepherds make their sheepfolds there.
^21 (B)But wild beasts of the desert will lie there,
And their houses will be full of ^[a]owls;
Ostriches will dwell there,
And wild goats will caper there.
²² The hyenas will howl in their citadels,
And jackals in their pleasant palaces.
^(C)Her time is near to come,
And her days will not be prolonged.”

^55 (A)He also drove out the nations before them,
^(B)Allotted them an inheritance by ^[a]survey,
And made the tribes of Israel dwell in their tents.
