⁹ Rise up, you women who are at ease, hear my voice;
    you complacent daughters, listen to my speech.^(A)

¹⁵ Is this the exultant city
    that lived secure,
that said to itself,
    “I am, and there is no one else”?
What a desolation it has become,
    a lair for wild animals!
Everyone who passes by it
    hisses and shakes the fist.^(A)

6 Woe to those who are at ease in Zion
    and for those who feel secure on Mount Samaria,
the notables of the first of the nations,
    to whom the house of Israel resorts!^(A)
2 Cross over to Calneh and see;
    from there go to Hamath the great;
    then go down to Gath of the Philistines.
Are you better^[a] than these kingdoms?
    Or is your^[b] territory greater than their^[c] territory,^(B)
3 you who put far away the evil day
    and bring near a reign of violence?^(C)

² I have likened daughter Zion
    to the loveliest pasture.^[a](A)
3 Shepherds with their flocks shall come against her.
    They shall pitch their tents around her;
    they shall pasture, all in their places.^(B)
4 “Prepare war against her;
    up, and let us attack at noon!”
“Woe to us, for the day declines;
    the shadows of evening lengthen!”^(C)
5 “Up, and let us attack by night,
    and destroy her palaces!”^(D)
6 For thus says the Lord of hosts:
Cut down her trees;
    cast up a siege ramp against Jerusalem.
This is the city that must be punished;^[b]
    there is nothing but oppression within her.^(E)
