¹⁸ In that day I will make a covenant for them
    with the beasts of the field, the birds in the sky
    and the creatures that move along the ground.^(A)
Bow and sword and battle
    I will abolish^(B) from the land,
    so that all may lie down in safety.^(C)
19 I will betroth^(D) you to me forever;
    I will betroth you in^[a] righteousness and justice,^(E)
    in^[b] love and compassion.^(F)
20 I will betroth you in^[c] faithfulness,
    and you will acknowledge^(G) the Lord.^(H)

²¹ “In that day I will respond,”
    declares the Lord—
“I will respond^(I) to the skies,
    and they will respond to the earth;
²² and the earth will respond to the grain,
    the new wine and the olive oil,^(J)
    and they will respond to Jezreel.^[d](K)
23 I will plant^(L) her for myself in the land;
    I will show my love to the one I called ‘Not my loved one.^[e](M)’
I will say to those called ‘Not my people,^[f]’ ‘You are my people’;^(N)
    and they will say, ‘You are my God.^(O)’”

¹⁶ In those days Judah will be saved^(A)
    and Jerusalem will live in safety.^(B)
This is the name by which it^[a] will be called:^(C)
    The Lord Our Righteous Savior.’^(D)

⁹ No lion^(A) will be there,
    nor any ravenous beast;^(B)
    they will not be found there.
But only the redeemed^(C) will walk there,
¹⁰     and those the Lord has rescued^(D) will return.
They will enter Zion with singing;^(E)
    everlasting joy^(F) will crown their heads.
Gladness^(G) and joy will overtake them,
    and sorrow and sighing will flee away.^(H)

²⁰ Look on Zion,^(A) the city of our festivals;
    your eyes will see Jerusalem,
    a peaceful abode,^(B) a tent^(C) that will not be moved;^(D)
its stakes will never be pulled up,
    nor any of its ropes broken.
²¹ There the Lord will be our Mighty^(E) One.
    It will be like a place of broad rivers and streams.^(F)
No galley with oars will ride them,
    no mighty ship^(G) will sail them.
²² For the Lord is our judge,^(H)
    the Lord is our lawgiver,^(I)
the Lord is our king;^(J)
    it is he who will save^(K) us.

¹⁷ Instead of bronze I will bring you gold,^(A)
    and silver in place of iron.
Instead of wood I will bring you bronze,
    and iron in place of stones.
I will make peace^(B) your governor
    and well-being your ruler.^(C)
18 No longer will violence^(D) be heard in your land,
    nor ruin or destruction^(E) within your borders,
but you will call your walls Salvation^(F)
    and your gates Praise.^(G)
