⁴ For though his officials are at Zoan
    and his envoys reach Hanes,^(A)

⁹ You journeyed to Molech^[a] with oil
    and multiplied your perfumes;
you sent your envoys far away
    and sent them down to Sheol.^(A)

¹⁶ They turn to that which does not profit;^[a]
    they have become like a defective bow;
their officials shall fall by the sword
    because of the rage of their tongue.
So much for their babbling in the land of Egypt.^(A)

¹¹ Ephraim has become like a dove,
    silly and without sense;
    they call upon Egypt, they go to Assyria.^(A)
12 As they go, I will cast my net over them;
    I will bring them down like birds of the air;
    I will discipline them according to the report made to their assembly.^[a](B)

¹⁸ At Tehaphnehes the day shall be dark,
    when I break there the dominion of Egypt,
and its proud might shall come to an end;
    the city^[a] shall be covered by a cloud,
    and its daughter towns shall go into captivity.^(A)

¹⁴ I will make Pathros a desolation
    and will set fire to Zoan
    and will execute acts of judgment on Thebes.^(A)
