^2 (A)the mighty man and the soldier,
    the judge and the prophet,
    the diviner and the elder,

^3 (A)I will cut off the ruler from its midst,
    and will kill ^(B)all its princes^[a] with him,”
says the Lord.

^12 (A)Princes are hung up by their hands;
    ^(B)no respect is shown to the elders.
¹³ Young men are compelled to ^(C)grind at the mill,
    and boys stagger ^(D)under loads of wood.
^14 (E)The old men have left the city gate,
    the young men ^(F)their music.

¹⁴ So the Lord cut off from Israel ^(A)head and tail,
    palm branch and reed in one day—
^15 (B)the elder and honored man is the head,
    and ^(C)the prophet who teaches lies is the tail;

¹³ against all the ^(A)cedars of Lebanon,
    lofty and lifted up;
    and against all the ^(B)oaks of Bashan;
¹⁴ against all ^(C)the lofty mountains,
    and against all the uplifted hills;
¹⁵ against every high tower,
    and against every fortified wall;
