⁹ Be stunned and amazed,^(A)
    blind yourselves and be sightless;^(B)
be drunk,^(C) but not from wine,^(D)
    stagger,^(E) but not from beer.

²¹ Therefore hear this, you afflicted^(A) one,
    made drunk,^(B) but not with wine.
²² This is what your Sovereign Lord says,
    your God, who defends^(C) his people:
“See, I have taken out of your hand
    the cup^(D) that made you stagger;
from that cup, the goblet of my wrath,
    you will never drink again.

²⁶ I will make your oppressors^(A) eat^(B) their own flesh;
    they will be drunk on their own blood,^(C) as with wine.
Then all mankind will know^(D)
    that I, the Lord, am your Savior,^(E)
    your Redeemer,^(F) the Mighty One of Jacob.^(G)”

¹³ You who are far away,^(A) hear^(B) what I have done;
    you who are near, acknowledge my power!
¹⁴ The sinners^(C) in Zion are terrified;
    trembling^(D) grips the godless:
“Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire?^(E)
    Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?”

¹⁴ The Lord has poured into them
    a spirit of dizziness;^(A)
they make Egypt stagger in all that she does,
    as a drunkard staggers^(B) around in his vomit.

⁴¹ “‘Look, you scoffers,
    wonder and perish,
for I am going to do something in your days
    that you would never believe,
    even if someone told you.’^[a]”^(A)
