¹⁵ Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death,
And with Sheol we are in agreement.
When the overflowing scourge passes through,
It will not come to us,
^(A)For we have made lies our refuge,
And under falsehood we have hidden ourselves.”

⁷ Now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up over them
The waters of ^[a]the River, strong and mighty—
The king of Assyria and all his glory;
He will ^[b]go up over all his channels
And go over all his banks.
⁸ He will pass through Judah,
He will overflow and pass over,
^(A)He will reach up to the neck;
And the stretching out of his wings
Will ^[c]fill the breadth of Your land, O ^(B)Immanuel.^[d]

¹⁸ In that day I will make a ^(A)covenant for them
With the beasts of the field,
With the birds of the air,
And with the creeping things of the ground.
Bow and sword of battle ^(B)I will shatter from the earth,
To make them ^(C)lie down safely.

¹⁸ Your covenant with death will be annulled,
And your agreement with Sheol will not stand;
When the overflowing scourge passes through,
Then you will be trampled down by it.
