¹⁴ Therefore hear the word of the Lord,^(A) you scoffers^(B)
    who rule this people in Jerusalem.

²⁰ The ruthless^(A) will vanish,^(B)
    the mockers^(C) will disappear,
    and all who have an eye for evil^(D) will be cut down—

²² Now stop your mocking,^(A)
    or your chains will become heavier;
the Lord, the Lord Almighty, has told me
    of the destruction decreed^(B) against the whole land.^(C)

¹⁰ Hear the word of the Lord,^(A)
    you rulers of Sodom;^(B)
listen to the instruction^(C) of our God,
    you people of Gomorrah!^(D)

⁴¹ “‘Look, you scoffers,
    wonder and perish,
for I am going to do something in your days
    that you would never believe,
    even if someone told you.’^[a]”^(A)

⁵ On the day of the festival of our king
    the princes become inflamed with wine,^(A)
    and he joins hands with the mockers.^(B)

“Surely the great houses will become desolate,^(C)
    the fine mansions left without occupants.

⁸ Mockers stir up a city,
    but the wise turn away anger.^(A)

³⁴ He mocks^(A) proud mockers^(B)
    but shows favor to the humble^(C) and oppressed.
