¹⁸ they are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of their ignorance and hardness of heart.^(A)

⁵¹ At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, and the rocks were split.^(A)

A Call to Persevere

¹⁹ Therefore, my brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus,^{(A) 20} by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain (that is, through his flesh),^{(B) 21} and since we have a great priest over the house of God,^(C)

¹³ not like Moses, who put a veil over his face to keep the people of Israel from gazing at the end of the glory that^[a] was being set aside.^{(A) 14} But their minds were hardened. Indeed, to this very day, when they hear the reading of the old covenant, the same veil is still there; it is not unveiled since in Christ it is set aside.^{(B) 15} Indeed, to this very day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their minds,^{[b] 16} but when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.^{(C) 17} Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.^{(D) 18} And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another, for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit.^(E)

The Ingathering of the Dispersed

⁸ for once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Walk as children of light,^(A)

³⁰ While God has overlooked the times of human ignorance, now he commands all people everywhere to repent,^(A)

²⁴ For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made by human hands, a mere copy of the true one, but he entered into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.^(A)
