The Lord’s Devastation of the Earth

¹¹ Then I said, “For how long, Lord?”^(A)

And he answered:

⁴ therefore, mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Sovereign Lord: This is what the Sovereign Lord says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys,^(A) to the desolate ruins^(B) and the deserted^(C) towns that have been plundered and ridiculed^(D) by the rest of the nations around you^(E)—

²⁵ “In that day,^(A)” declares the Lord Almighty, “the peg^(B) driven into the firm place will give way; it will be sheared off and will fall, and the load hanging on it will be cut down.” The Lord has spoken.^(C)

¹⁷ The survivors of the archers, the warriors of Kedar, will be few.^(A)” The Lord, the God of Israel, has spoken.^(B)

²¹ The land enjoyed its sabbath rests;^(A) all the time of its desolation it rested,^(B) until the seventy years^(C) were completed in fulfillment of the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah.

²⁸ In furious anger and in great wrath^(A) the Lord uprooted^(B) them from their land and thrust them into another land, as it is now.”
