¹⁸ Whoever flees at the sound of the terror
    shall fall into the pit,
and whoever climbs out of the pit
    shall be caught in the snare.
For the windows of heaven are opened,
    and the foundations of the earth tremble.^(A)

¹⁹     as if someone fled from a lion
    and was met by a bear
or went into the house and rested a hand against the wall
    and was bitten by a snake.^(A)

² Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
    though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea,^(A)
3 though its waters roar and foam,
    though the mountains tremble with its tumult. Selah^(B)

¹⁵ Then the channels of the sea were seen,
    and the foundations of the world were laid bare
at your rebuke, O Lord,
    at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.^(A)

²⁴ They will flee from an iron weapon;
    a bronze arrow will strike them through.^(A)

⁸ For they are thrust into a net by their own feet,
    and they walk into a pitfall.^(A)
9 A trap seizes them by the heel;
    a snare lays hold of them.^(B)
10 A rope is hid for them in the ground,
    a trap for them in the path.^(C)
11 Terrors frighten them on every side
    and chase them at their heels.^(D)
12 Their strength is consumed by hunger,^[a]
    and calamity is ready for their stumbling.^(E)
13 By disease their skin is consumed;^[b]
    the firstborn of Death consumes their limbs.
¹⁴ They are torn from the tent in which they trusted
    and are brought to the king of terrors.^(F)
15 In their tents nothing remains;
    sulfur is scattered upon their habitations.^(G)
16 Their roots dry up beneath,
    and their branches wither above.^(H)
