¹⁷ The arrogance of man will be brought low^(A)
    and human pride humbled;^(B)
the Lord alone will be exalted in that day,^(C)

²⁹ “We have heard of Moab’s pride^(A)—
    how great is her arrogance!—
of her insolence, her pride, her conceit
    and the haughtiness^(B) of her heart.
³⁰ I know her insolence but it is futile,”
declares the Lord,
    “and her boasts^(C) accomplish nothing.

¹¹ The eyes of the arrogant^(A) will be humbled^(B)
    and human pride^(C) brought low;^(D)
the Lord alone will be exalted^(E) in that day.^(F)

“‘In the pride of your heart
    you say, “I am a god;
I sit on the throne^(B) of a god
    in the heart of the seas.”^(C)
But you are a mere mortal and not a god,
    though you think you are as wise as a god.^(D)
3 Are you wiser than Daniel^[a]?^(E)
    Is no secret hidden from you?
⁴ By your wisdom and understanding
    you have gained wealth for yourself
and amassed gold and silver
    in your treasuries.^(F)
5 By your great skill in trading^(G)
    you have increased your wealth,^(H)
and because of your wealth
    your heart has grown proud.^(I)

“‘Because you think you are wise,
    as wise as a god,
⁷ I am going to bring foreigners against you,
    the most ruthless of nations;^(J)
they will draw their swords against your beauty and wisdom^(K)
    and pierce your shining splendor.^(L)

¹¹ I will punish^(A) the world for its evil,
    the wicked^(B) for their sins.
I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty^(C)
    and will humble^(D) the pride of the ruthless.^(E)
